Two different ways of understanding "Driving"
Intelligent Driving Defensive Driving
Definition Driving is a complex psychomotor activity , which requires superior brain functions. It is an intelligent activity where all the cognitive functions are conditioned by emotions. Driving defensively means driving to avoid accidents despite other vehicles maneuvers or unsafe conditions.
Main concept ANTICIPATION. The driver learns how to react on time.
Objective An adapted answer throughout a TACTICAL ELABORATION for each situation as the main objective. Reflex act as cause and objective.

Funciones que intervienen en el manejo PERCEPTION: Conscience integrates sensitive stimuli of objects, facts or situations and transforms them into useful experience. Subjective activity, i.e. each person estimates the distance in a different way. Experienc: we see what we know. Objective function which acts in a similar way for all the individuals. It does not consider the emotional item as decisive fact.
Driving technique teaching method Superior skills to learn a task. Teaching under rigor
Application considerations It takes into consideration the environment, the individual and the vehicle. Rules and behavior are applied in a closed system.
Accidents It divides the accident in three linked stages. Prevention is the first one; the second one starts when the driver loses control of the vehicle and it is where passive and active safety are analized; the third one -post accident- allows to study the process after stopping. Its standard formula applies to all the situations. It emphasizes on the defense against the accident.
How to avoid accidents from happening Each accident is unique and unrepeatable; it is not useful to think on what we could have done. Avoiding accidents means taking the right decisions by planning beforehand. Visualizing emergencies and planning mentally defensive actions.
Antecedents Empirical method created in Argentina in the 1980's, after 60.000 driving hours investigation, done with 5.000 persons during ten years and driving 300.000km. Afterwards this method was applied in more than 6.000 professional drivers from 5 corporations and 300 companies. Created in Texas, USA, in the 1960's.Based on the American driving way.

    Safe lights
Part 2
Following with the advances showed in previous editions, we will introduce now the new vehicle lights characteristics.

New designs

In tune with the advances achieved for lamps, manufacturers have introduced also headlamps that complete their advantages, modifying lamps and diffuse crystals.

Until 1980's only parabolic reflectors were used, while nowadays there are also the complex surface and the ellipsoids ones. The main complex surface lamps' advantage is that, as it is regulated by an informatic system that calculates at every moment where it should project light -a better design- and it does not dazzle. Its second generation, it combines with a smooth crystal -non striated- which allows a wider lamp inclination. In contrast, the ellipsoid lamp includes a convergent lens that directs its rays to a precise point, enabling low height lights, mostly discharge lamps.

Besides, with the intention of reducing their weight, the headlamp crystal is replaced by polycarbonate, a very resistant plastic which offers more design versatility. A special varnish contributes with the necessary protection towards solar radiations, scratches and other type of aggressions such as cleaning products. On the other hand, now lamps have ultraviolet protection to adequate to this new material.

Intelligent lights

Nowadays vehicle lamps are intelligent, being able to adapt to the environment conditions. In this way, the lamps systems detect low visibility and automatically turn on the lights when the vehicle is circulating in dusk or entering a tunnel.

Sensor lamps distribute light through the route sketch, speed and climatic conditions were created by one of the main lamps specialists. These adjust the beam of light to the different conditions: the crossing lamp adapts to each bend of the road by some crossing additional lamps which position according to the steering wheel's rotation, directing the light to the no illuminated part of the bend that the classic crossing lamps do not illuminate, which corresponds with what the driver sees. For the long lights, some secondary mirrors adapt the width and the distance of the beam of light to the vehicle's speed.

Moreover, investigations about night vision systems also are producing results: an infrared eye which its visual field is five times larger than the common lamps. This system introduces a camera in the front rack which detects obstacles -before the eye sees them- through the heat they produce, and projects the images in the lower part of the windshield, giving more time to the driver to react and reduce the dazzling risk.
